"Cuba
attracts around two million visitors per year,
Canada is Cuba's largest source of tourists, with
Great Britain No. 2. Although U.S. tourism to Cuba
is illegal, the U.S. is Cuba's largest supplier
of agricultural produce."
"One of the legendary figures of the Revolution, Che
Guevara, rests in Santa Clara, Cuba. After fighting
alongside Fidel Castro, Che was killed in Bolivia in
1967, and it wasn't until the fall of 1997 that his
remains were sent back to Cuba. Today, Che (an Argentinean
by birth) and six of his comrades are buried in a mausoleum
in the central Cuban city of Santa Clara, an excursion
to the site is offered from the hotel to Santa Clara."
"
Christmas
is once again a holiday in Cuba. Although the Catholic
Church was never vanquished by Castro, Christmas Day
had not been a legal holiday in Cuba since 1969. In
December 1997, in honor of Pope John Paul II's impending
visit, Castro reinstated Christmas as a public holiday.
Many Cubans vacate their front rooms to build massive
nativity scenes, often open to the public."
"
One in every
six passenger cars in Cuba predates the Revolution.
Models that are now rare in the U.S., such as Kaisers
and Studebakers, are relatively common in Cuba. Don't
be surprised to see Model T Fords used as everyday
family vehicles."
"

they might gather. The players are always excellent,
but they are paid very little and rely on tips to overcome
the challenge of making ends meet."
